Reiki
Reiki is a complementary healing therapy, founded by Mikao Usui in Japan, in the early part of the the 20th century. Reiki, pronounced 'ray-
key', is a gentle and effective system of healing which activates the body's own natural ability to heal itself. As a natural healing system, it can
benefit everyone, from young babies to adults and is a safe, non-invasive treatment.
The name Reiki originates from the Japanese words 'rei' meaning 'universal' and 'ki' meaning 'energy'. This universal energy is channelled
through the practitioner to the recipient and works on all levels of the mind, body, emotion and spirit, allowing for total harmony and balance to
be restored.
Who can benefit from Reiki massage?
Treatments with Reiki energy reduce stress within the body, thereby inducing a state of relaxation. The body can then be allowed to begin the
healing process. It is an extremely relaxing experience and the benefits are immediate.
All diseases and ailments can be helped with Reiki and it is safe to use in conjunction with other complementary therapies and conventional
medical treatments. Reiki produces a feeling of total wellbeing and this has a very positive effect on the immune system.
Whatever you may wish to have treatment for, Reiki will definitely help in some way, on so many levels. Once improvements have been noticed,
it may also be time to look at ways of helping yourself to remain in this improved state, by changing old negative ways of thinking, improving
ways of dealing with stress, improving your diet, getting more exercise and so on.
What will happen during a treatment?
Following a detailed consultation you will be asked to lie, fully clothed, on a couch and provided with pillows and blankets to get comfortable. If
this is impractical it can be done seated on a chair.
I usually play music as this is really helpful to relax the clients mind but it is their choice. I will then place my hands either on or just above areas
of the body where the healing is needed. Common experiences felt by the client are warmth, heat, pins and needles, sometimes a cool breeze
is felt or indeed they may fall asleep.
The benefits of Reiki are felt for some time afterwards and it is suggested that more than the usual amount of water is drunk straight afterwards
in order to flush out toxins.
How many treatments will you need?
As I treat all clients on a individual basis, the number of treatments will depend on the severity of the condition and how quickly their body
responds to the healing.
As we all know, prevention is better than cure, so I would always highly recommend regular sessions.
